Vibroexponator 1932 - Boris Yankovsky

The vibroexponator translated photographed spectral templates into audible complex sound. Yankovsky imagined a sort of visual periodic table of sound elements, a syntone database, that could be played with his instrument. The instrument was apparently lost, but was described a bulky object for the recording of synthetic sound using 35mm film. While lost, the instrument is interesting as an early way to visualize complex audio beyond typical waveforms. The image below is an example of a graphical sound.
